Why do I need a CCTV HardDrive?

Any hard drive will work with your NVR, so why would you want to buy a CCTV Hardrive? The main benefit is that it’s designed for 24/7 operation so is less prone to temperature related issues and have an extended life as a result. A normal harddrive will burn out a lot faster if operated 24/7.

Data is also written in a more consistent manner, as such CCTV Hard Drives are far more suitable for storing the sort of consistent data recorded by cameras. They'd be far less suited to a PC which records data in a far more randomised manner. As such you'll get more practical storage.
